lucas112
Do different brand downpipes make your exhaust sound different? I know that different cat backs dont sound the same. i love the sound of the cobb turbo back but if i substitute the cobb downpipe for a cheaper cnt downpipe, will it make a difference in the exhaust note? berkshire40
ive only ran the cobb but from what ive read most of the high flow cat options should sound similar meaning you probably couldnt tell the difference in person. catless i would certainly expect to sound different than catted. lucas112
sorry i should have mention catted downpipes only, i already know that catless sounds different than catted
berkshire40
in that case the CBE will be the biggest difference. if you swapped one high-flow catted DP for another keeping the CBE the same, I would expect a very similar sound but someone else can chime in to confirm. Drift Motion
reason why catback sounds different is because the muffler design same goes with the cat, other than that...pipe is a pipe...
lucas112
so what your saying is a different downpipe wont change the exhaust note
BAC5.2
Meh, it's not so cut-and-dry as that. A pipe isn't exactly a pipe, and flow through a pipe is largely dependent on bend radius, interior surface condition, wall-thickness (to a small degree), and collector geometry. All of that will slightly change sound. But, for your average person, no, it doesn't matter. m sprank
Sound differences are minor. Most will not notice. They will hear the CBE. Driver might notice difference.
fonts
An aftermarket DP will create a more noticeable sound change in cabin. You'll likely be able to hear the turbo and BOV a little better. Exhaust note outside the car will have little to no change. If you are looking for sound you want a catback...... if you want some performance and sound you want a turboback.
