HankG
I'm going to be swapping in a transmission out of a parts car soon, and this'll be my first time doing it, so I was wondering if there was anything I should do to the new transmission first. Thinking of things like seals, bearings, or whatever. I'm not looking to really pull the transmission apart, so only fairly quick and easy replacements. ibr_adam09
I would do a clutch job if its a manual, but definatly do a flush and replace the cv axle seals
Scruit
Replace every seal that you can get to while the trans is out. Axles/propshaft/rear main etc. There's no feeling quite like it... Remove and reinstall a transmission or engine, then the next morning you get a nice puddle of oil on your garage floor from the rear main seal. (*Insert FFFFUUUU memeguy here*) If you don't replace every seal, just bear in mind that the the second R&R is always easier. Bolts are looser, you know what stuff has to come off in what order. (Ask me how I know) If it is a stick, then don't forget to grease the release fork pivot ball before you put it back together - and make sure the release fork boot seals correctly.
