Should i get this 90 legacy wagon? its cheap

Recommended Posts

i cant decide whether or not to get this 1990 Legacy wagon FWD. its the basic model, manual windows, no tilting steering wheel, no power door locks, manual adjust mirrors, cloth seats, its a 5 speed, has a new clutch and pressure plate, has ~180k miles, supposedly doesnt smoke or leak oil. But it needs a fuel pump put in it which is another $135. it looks rough on the ouside, but if i get it i have a painting station that im going to use to put it in black or gray primer. Pictures are attached. Are these cars reliable/durable? Are there any common problems or issues this model has that i should check for when i go to look at the car in person? Do they handle good? Thank you for your help.

It looks pretty rough. How much are they asking for it? I generally stay away from buying cars that don't run and "just need a fuel pump" unless they are selling for dirt cheap.

they were asking $500 but they agreed to trade for a computer of mine. I know a bit about cars, but my dad has been a mechanic for around 30 years and this weekend were gonna go look at it, and he should be able to tell if its the fuel pump thats bad or if its something else.

id buy it. u can get a fuel pump for way less than 135.

180k aint nothin. my 91 na 5mt awd went 350k before it blew. and that was rally racing it daily and traveling to and from work 100 miles each way. buy it and enjoy it.

do a basic tune up, all filters and make sure you use a thicker oil than 5w30. it will last forever.

(and chill out with the threads, ask your questions in one thread. no need to ask the same question 3 different times)

and yes, to answer your question about 95 legacy and 90 legacy fuel pumps. there the same. they can be had new for 60 bucks. search google.

But the 1995 is AWD. Its a Legacy L, AWD. mine is a legacy base model FWD. When i went to the auto parts store near my house they told me there are 2 different fuel pumps, a 1.5" and a 2". so im not sure which one the 1990 has, and which one the 1995 has. the model number on the fuel pump from the 1990 is 42021AA020

if its a big issue. remove urs, take it to the parts store and match the old one to the new one. or just order the one from the link i just posted.

so i took the old pump to the parts store and it was the 2" pump. I bought a new pump and new filter, the one that attaches to the pump, and installed them, and the car runs, but doesnt idle. I think its because the gas in the car is 7 months old because its been sitting. We added like 3 gallons of new gas, and disconnected the hose that feeds gas to the engine, after the fuel filter under the hood, and the pump just keep pumping brown, old smelling gas. The motor runs smooth, no knocks, no clanks. Just does not want to idle. Oh and it smokes, but it has 249,000 miles on it. I thought it only had 180k. The car has AC, has a 140mph speedo i believe, and has rear window defrost. The clutch feels really nice in this car. I never actually moved the car, but the pedal has the perfect feeling to it. they say they replaced the clutch/pressure plate, and throwout bearing on it. $200 cash will buy the car.
