sactojesse
She wants luxury, "status", uniqueness, and leather. And AWD. *bites tongue* A3 Quattro, A4 Avant, G37x, IS250 AWD come to mind for non-CUV alternatives that fit the bill. I'd personally get an STI if I were in her shoes, but I don't care about "status" and I have a Y-chromosome. Besides, her shoes are likely much too small for my size 11 hooves. berkshire40
my wife has an 08 rav4. it sounds lame but it moves with the v6, got a towing package and hitch on it too. Mod list & photos _
Legend
B.t.w. Why does she need a SUV? At this point, I don't think it has to be. There is no good utilitarian reason to get one. There are only 3 of us in the family and we have the Jeep already for adventures, 4-wheeling, towing the boat, etc. She doesn't haul around stuff and she doesn't need big ground clearance. She is now leaning towards a sedan, possibly a CUV. My '05 LGT My '07 Supercharged Shelby
mustangendsley
Toyota Rave 4 with the bigger engine is my choice. Great gas milage, haules anything you want, can move quickly also. I think it is funny when people say they want a SUV, but no off roading when they all do that. All the SUV's you mentioned are status symboles and will cost you big down the road and depreciate very fast. Toyota's keep their reputation very well. The cars that went out of controle were stupid people behind the wheel and the test people were not able to even get a toyota to go out of controle. berkshire40
the newer/bigger rav4 has done really well for us, we are happy with it and you can probably find good deals on them because there are so many on the road got a limited BTW Mod list & photos _

Legend
Lots of discussion tonight and reading reviews, looking at ads, etc. The SUV is now out of the picture. Bring on the luxury sedans! That took us down to Audi A4, Mercedes C280 4matic, Volvo, BMW 328xi, Lexus IS250, and Infiniti G35x. Neither of us liked the Volvo or any Audi much so we ditched those right away. Among the others after reading reviews and looking at pics, etc. we ditched the Mercedes and BMW. We both like the G35x and Lexus IS250 the best, but won't eliminate the 328xi if we find the right car. Now looking to spend $23k-$25k. Car must now be white or black. White with black leather preferred. Preferably under 35k miles. Here are some cars we are finding tasty (not all of them meet all of our criteria but they are close). http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/1931011306.html - this thing looks beautiful and I'd love to have it in the garage... maybe too many mods and mileage though http://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/1923804920.html - a favorite of mine http://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/1932006390.html http://denver.craigslist.org/cto/1929393101.html http://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/1928345509.html http://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/1919249738.html http://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/1914961560.html My '05 LGT My '07 Supercharged Shelby
ShrinerMonkey
“Style” very important, wants a luxury city SUV (no off-road) *Bites tounge OFF* What she really wants is a wagon but she doesn't know it because she is a brain washed sheeple.... no offense. My wife is like me and only likes/wants wagons.
Legend
Whoa found my favorite local Lexus on eBay. Hmmm.. might be checking this one out. executor485
CX-7 and Murano are both good options too. The one thing about the Murano/FX35/45 is that our direct neighbors have an '09 Murano and a '10 FX35... Now the wife is saying it doesn't have to be an SUV after all... as long as it is a luxury vehicle with AWD... so that opens up some options Should PM VVGT (i think) who has the AWD Lexus GS350. Very nice cars, and his price was right in your area IIRC. If I pass you on the right, I'm flipping you off.
fishbone
The man said the woman wants lux, get your CX and Juke crap outta this thread. Maybe I'm a snob and don't know it, but the CX is full of crap plastic. And the Juke don't rhyme with puke for no reason. Just sayin'. The Murano is digestible in it's bracket but I'd rather go for an FX. Don't have to be SUV now? Damn, she's a woman alright. I'd get an Infiniti G AWD, it's got ATTESA-ETS AWD goodness. Or an Audi. I hear they are top notch in the awd segment The BMW awd is not bad but I just don't like how it's drowned and dependent on all sorts of electronics. Scooter
Bring on the luxury sedans! I still like my Acura RL suggestion: they can be had in your price range and that's just a lot of car for the money. Seek first to understand, then to be understood. Legend
The Acura RL's are really overpriced (can't find any 2007-2008's for less than $27k) and styling a little ordinary. We are ditching the IS250. 204hp?!? Really?! 0-60 in 7.4s. Terrible. Looks like we are going with a G35x. 306hp and 0-60 in 5.5s. Distinctive styling. Tons of luxury. Here is a 2008 w/ 25k miles for $27k. http://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/1923804920.html And a 2007 (unknown milesage) for $23k. http://denver.craigslist.org/ctd/1932006390.html My '05 LGT My '07 Supercharged Shelby

This is a great buy. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/va-2007-lexus-gs-350-awd-36k-miles-141945.html Looks darn nice. But $29k?! Maybe it is fair market value but when there are direct competitors that perform better and are priced lower that price just isn't that attractive. The AWD version does 0-60 in 5.8s. 304hp. Decent. Not as good as the 5.5s G35x though at $3k less. The G35x is lighter, better looking IMHO, has more power (okay it's a tie - 306hp) and 2008's with ~30k miles can be had for $25-$26k. Styling is definitely a little ordinary, so I can see how that would be an issue. I don't think they are overpriced, as they were a $50k cars, new. G35 sounds like a great choice for you, though! This comparison may sound reasonable... However, they are 2 ENTIRELY different cars. Your comparing a G35, extremely small sedan honestly, which should actually be compared with an IS 350. The GS 350 is actually more equivalent to the M35, in which case, its a great deal. I was/am comparison shopping for a new car and the G35 is smaller/less space than the LGT, so it wouldnt work. However the M35 or GS350 are perfect size for replacement as they are actually larger but still have luxury out the rear. If I pass you on the right, I'm flipping you off. Legend
^^ I agree with your assessment. She really doesn't need the extra space and comfort in the rear though, so although the GS350/M35 are more car than the G35x, the G35x is enough car for her needs, or should I say "wants". executor485
Fair enough Just wanted to make sure you were aware the comparison wasnt quite fair, lol. My wife and I just went through all this about 3 months ago and ended up getting the ES350 for her. Wasnt quite what I wanted, but it suits her needs/wants perfectly. She started wanting the SUV, and we went and looked at a LOT of them, but finally ended up with the Lexus even though she initially wanted an SUV. Strange how they change their minds so suddenly If I pass you on the right, I'm flipping you off.
Legend
Wow we fell in love with a car today. And at a damn good price. Spent 3 hours with it, almost 2 hours worth of test driving. The techie toys on this car are just awesome... it had both the "premium" package and "nav" package.. $4600 worth of electronics basically. Back up camera, voice-activated nav and bluetooth to phone, etc. The pearl white in this car is so pretty. It is a 2008 w/ 22k miles. 306hp V6 was decently potent.. 0-60 in 5.5s. NADA is $31k, listed at $27.5k, and but was a "no-haggle" price basically and we couldn't work out more than $9500 for my wife's '04 Accord V6 so after half an hour of negotiating I we got stuck on cash balance due of $18.2k. I got the $, but I will stick to my guns and my budget and try to find something $2k-$3k less. So... despite finding a great deal on an awesome car, the search is still on. I would totally drive one of these myself.. very impressive! http://beeez.com/lgt/infin1.jpg http://beeez.com/lgt/infin2.jpg My '05 LGT My '07 Supercharged Shelby
Penguin
The G35 is a very compelling car, and would be a good choice. Just keep plugging away at the dealer, and don't be surprised if by the end of the month you might come to a deal.
fishbone
Nice ride, but I don't see how it would sprint to 60 in just 5.5 secs with 268lb-ft and a curb weight at 3500 or more. I'd be fairly heartbroken to hear my Stage 2 autotragic was no faster.
