SlickSpur
I did my first spring install on Saturday. Took me all evening Thur and Fri, and 6 or 7 hours on Saturday to do this by myself. I had to make quite a few runs to hardware stores for tools, as well as to get spring compressors. Since I did this by myself, I'm nervous I may not have them seated correctly, could you guys give me a confirmation? For the record, no clunking. While the bottom moved away from the notch maybe 3/4", it's the top that concerns me. The spring is not 100% flush with the top hat, and I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to be. It didn't seem like it was going to recess all the way into the spring though so that the top part of the spring is flush all the way around. Does it look ok to you guys? http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/2215/kyleandkimsjackandjill0.jpg http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/2215/kyleandkimsjackandjill0.jpg http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/2215/kyleandkimsjackandjill0.jpg http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/2215/kyleandkimsjackandjill0.jpg http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/2215/kyleandkimsjackandjill0.jpg http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/2215/kyleandkimsjackandjill0.jpg In the spring walkthru that mccorry wrote, it looks like his H-Tech also doesnt sit flush with the top hat, so maybe it's normal. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/spring-swap-walkthrough-tein-h-techs-38873.html
tjbev21
they look right to me (i have s techs) but ZOMG 6-7 hours????? mine were done and test driven in like 30 minutes, the spring install was 100x easier than the damn banjo bolt, IMO
SlickSpur
I admit to being way slower than an average person when it comes to working on my car. I have a tendency to double/triple check walkthru's, and I had to make quite a few stops to hardware stores/Sears for tools. Thanks for quick reply. tjbev21
fair enough lol yea but the springs kinda settle in "crooked" when the top hat go's on
SlickSpur
I think I may reinstall them, the height hasn't dropped much in the front and I'm wondering if it's because of the bottom not being up against that notch perfectly. I'd also like to take another crack at getting the top to sit better. Is it even possible for the bottom of the top hat to sit flush all the way around the top of the spring? It doesn't seem like theres a specific spot the end of the spring is supposed to rest at the top on either the front or rear springs. The top hat piece on the rear has grooves, is the spring supposed to sit in one of those? How did you get it done so quick? Impact gun to compress the springs? tjbev21
I marked the top hat when I took my stockers off so I just lined mine up with that reference point. And yea I used my impacts, didn't even have to use a spring compressor
FredBeans
The spring seat does need to be oriented in a certain way. See below. http://a.imageshack.us/img196/6233/springseat.jpg
m sprank
The holes are for water drainage. Just point them to the outside of the wheel well. Thats all you can do.
SlickSpur
Ok guys thanks. I re-seated the one I didn't think was sitting ok, and I made sure the drain plugs where facing to the outside of the car on both fronts. Now to wait for them to settle. SlickSpur
Took some pics of the new one, but I think ride height is still off. Took some pictures. Installed them last Saturday, so its been a little over a week now (minus the one I resat). Does this seem okay, or did I maybe install something improperly? http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/861/minicar001.jpg http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/539/minicar002.jpg http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/2889/minicar003.jpg http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/2607/minicar007.jpg http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/3462/minicar008.jpg http://img696.imageshack.us/img696/3462/minicar008.jpg http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/1399/minicar009.jpg http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/4007/minicar010.jpg http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/285/minicar011.jpg
SlickSpur
A post from a member after finishing his Eibach install Well put captain.........my Eibach's are supposed to lower around 1" all around. Ride is superb, stiffer yet bearable on our PA roads. Less body roll in the corners. Been on my Eibach's for 1500 miles....I just measured for you Windy Road and mine reads..... Front stock: 26.5" Rear Stock: 25.75" Front Eibach settled:25 and 7/16" Rear Eibach settled: 25 and 1/8" A couple pics from the ground, first is the front, second is the rears: http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/9905/minicar014.jpg http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/2246/minicar017.jpg Though it looks like the fronts are pretty close to his, but its still a 3 finger gap... http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/3186/minicar020.jpg
