issai
http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/08/06/volkswagens-investigated-for-failing-ignition-coils/ Are the Passat's issues similar to the Legacy's cylinder #4 misfire that have been reported in this forum? If so, it seems we just need at least 16 of us to file an NHTSA complaint to make headlines.
godwhomismike
My old 2005 Legacy GT was plagued by this. It spent months at the dealership. I can't tell you how many times I fantasized about driving that ******* thing full speed off the side of a mountain. I hated that car with a passion. It's kind of weird that I wasn't turned off to the company, and got another Subaru after that one. Luckily, the Forester has been running strong for nearly 2 years and 23,500 miles. Gmachine
Guy i work with used to carry 2 spare coils in the trunk of his Passat. He told me his brother who drove an A4 also had the same problems.
Bolksey85
Friend of mine had all 4 go bad one by one on his GTi along with CV boots followed by the trans. And that was after the clutch have up the ghost 1000mi after he bought it. They should be investigated for building crap in general.
ShrinerMonkey
Hence, I no longer own my 2001 Passat. I even had a coil pack fail AFTER they were replaced by a recall. Pathetic. And that was the least of the multitude of problems I had with that POS.
psi365
<(just slowly backs out of this thread.) Not at all going to defend VAG on this one since for us it is the second campaign on coils. They're still stupidly designed and still not water tight. The germans have a learning curve like an arrow.
