Advice on purchase

Recommended Posts

I just sold my STI yesterday and now have my 600 hp corvette left to sale. I've picked the legacy as its somewhat a luxury car and I want AWD.

I found a 2006 Subaru Legacy GT with 92,629 miles and its an automatic. Had 2 owners and majority of its life was spent in Texas.

First I wanted to stay away from turbo's for the reason that I have already owned an STI and there's more parts/ things that can happen to the engine.

I am only considering this GT due to the price but the mileage is quite high for what I'm looking for.

What kind of reliability am I looking at?

How long should the stock turbo hold up?

Opinions, insight, criticism is welcomed. I am set on purchasing a legacy within the next two weeks.

Well you picked a good year...! You didn't say if MT or auto was your pleasure and/or if you might consider a GT wagon?

This example has low miles, STi touches and is worth the money its seems?

Here's a (somewhat scary) thread as to the reliablity factor on the turbo and what one can to to avoid this at all costs...Good luck!

Anyone see anything other than an STi badge and the STi gauge pack? Front struts look OEM, and looks to be stock ride height. IC is stock, so we know it doesn't have an STi style turbo.

I will say it's clean and has great mileage. But it's a 5EAT, and kinda pricey IMO. Should sell for about $16k I'd think. Just my opinion though. :)

Well, after clicking on that link looks like I'll be staying away from a GT. Know anyone that has an automatic limited 2006 or above for sale let me know

Don't get freaked out because of that. There's a filter somewhere in the oil supply line to the turbo that can be removed. Most people conclude that this filter gets clogged and is the primary suspect of turbo failure for the LGT. Search for "turbo" and "filter" and you should come up with some threads regarding this.

I appreciate the advice. Unless I can find one that has not been modded and is reasonable priced I won't be purchasing one. I sold my STI and I am currently selling the vette because of gas mileage, insurance, and I want a car that I dont have to worry about breaking down on me if I feel like going a couple hours outside of town. I understand precautions can be taken to prevent these types of things from happening, but the least amount of precaution I have to take the better.

I've had my fast and fun cars, it's time for some luxury.

Lightweight: If one reads between the lines on that thread, one sees that the failures are usually (as Z says) due to improper reliance on oil changes done at intervals far beyond recommended and at a 'Firestone' store where carefully checking the turbo oil lines, banjo bolts and filters therein are something usually not done at these locations for obvious reason....but knowing this and making sure it's done properly seems to mean the unit keeps working for the iife of the car...Quickness on the asphalt has it's price... in terms of maintenance...does it not?

Then i would go with either a beamer benz or bentley

Further: If your transport wishes do shift to consider a classic German road car, take a look at our one-owner (five-speed) 'California' Edition e24 sunroof coupe, as it's very nice and has a few authentic Alpina touches as it went thru Buchloe in 83 for their famous Bilstein suspension and lowering...there's no reason one need give up 'fast' as this car is def. furious but you have full bMW luxury too! Without the RS wheels (standard original BMW wheels included) it can go for just under $10k...

UK advert is here: http://www.classiccarsforsale.co.uk/classic-car-page.php/carno/85357

There were only 509 California model variants of the e24 imported US 82-85 ever (the rest went to Japan) It's fully restored and in great daily driver shape...and it's the only car I own at present...living up at 7,000' (retired now for 2 years) makes it a bit impractical for the winters up here but it's a very lovely car on these mountain roads (M5 e24 Meckle Suspension now) at most other times (Like this summer for instance?)...

I simply wish to pass this classic along to someone who can really use and enjoy it as she's not a garage queen and as you say a nice LGT (which is a must have when winter sets in) requires sale as I need money to purchase a good wagon...otherwise it's build a bigger garage? :D

See Holgis Sixer in Germany here: http://www.6ercoupe.de/englisch/index.html

Good luck on whatever you decide on for your future purchase!

Cheers!
