Hi

I own a Legacy 2008 2.0R.

Here in Sweden we can buy used stuff outoff crashed cars.

I´m wondering. If I buy a working orignal Navi to my car from, maybe an crashed Spec B. Legacy.

What do I need more? The original LCD screen and Navi cd-rom?

Maybe an antenna? Anybody knows?

Thanks in advance.

We can do the same here in the states (purchase things from wrecked cars). A few people have done it here, but it's a costly process unless you can get a good price on the parts.

Here's what you need (well I needed in the US)

Nav Screen

Nav DVD Rom Drive

Rom Drive to Screen cable

Antenna with mount

Power plug for DVD Rom under the seat

Power plugs for Nav screen behind dash

Two brackets to mount DVD Drive under seat

Couple screws and nuts

Think that was all.

Was it worth it? I mean, by price and by installing everything in the car?

Or is it easier to put a hand held GPS by for example TomTom? Like this:

Thanks!

If you can get the screen, the dvd drive, the dvd to screen cable, antenna and the three needed wiring plugs for dirt cheap then I say go for it. I only did it cause I like the look of the factory system. Though if your doing all that you might be able to build a carpc for cheaper.

The OEM Navi HU in European Legacy/Outbacks is different than in USDMs. Europe gets a single unit that combines the radio (with disc player), A/C control, and nav DVD drive. There is no under-seat module. It still has a separate display unit, plus the GPS antenna.

See this thread:

You might ask Visionhu -- he "transplanted" a European Navi HU and display into a USDM LGT. Although he said it displays English units (miles and Fahrenheit), I think if you install the Navi into a European Legacy you should immediately see km and Celcius.

Your Legacy's 14-pin radio harness (for power and speakers) will work. Also, your car's 8-pin A/C harness ("i88") should work. I can provide the 24-pin Navi harness (has pins for parking brake, reverse gear, vehicle speed, and more -- see link in my EU / AUDM Nav thread).

As the others said, it might be worthwhile if you can find the parts inexpensively.

Thank you all for the answers, but I can´t get the kit under 5500 SEK (about 750 USD, and 555 Euro).

5500 SEK is to much for a used Navi. It´s just uneconomical if you compare it to an HTC Desire.

So I think I´ll stick with an HTC Desire as a GPS and sound source (via AUX).
