LGT 5EAT Questions

Hi,

I am not familiar with Subaru powerplant/transmission, please bear with me.

Just checking what's the difference between the 2.5 & 2.0 transmission other than the SI drive?

Which is more responsive for aggressive driving like going on tracks?

Which one more problematic?

What is the maximum power/torque for both the transmission?

Many thanks!

Hi,

Over here in my country, the LGT are 2.0 up to 2006 & 2.5 from 2007 onwards.

The 2.0 also on 5 speed auto but without SI Drive.

Basically I would like to find out the difference in mod potential, reliability & responsiveness during hard driving.

Any info is appreciated.

As far as I know Subaru isn't terribly diverse when it comes to transmissions, meaning that their 5EAT is most likely the same on the 2.0 and 2.5. That being the case, I think you will be happier with the 2.5 because you have SI Drive and half liter of extra displacement, which does make a difference. Nobody knows for sure what max power the transmissions can handle but typically Stage 2 seems to work great. Just make sure to get at least a decent transmission cooler and replace the transmission fluid on a shorter schedule than what the manufacturer recommends (20K miles/32K km is a good point) if you drive it hard.
