Kodax
Has anyone tried getting the replace the single CD changer stereo with the 6 CD changer stereo?
Balrock
Tons of people have. Some guy on Ebay was selling the MP3 6CD changer quite awhile ago and people jumped all over it. It was an option. Just be sure everything is model year compliant.
Kodax
So it is possible to do that? Because I am sick of my single CD changer without the audio steering wheel controls. I seriously want those audio steering wheel controls.
biz77
Do you have manual climate controls?
Kodax
Yes, I have manual climate controls. I guess it is not possible now?
biz77
Nope, not if you are trying to fit the unit with electronic climate control.
Kodax
So there is absolutely no way for me to obtain a Subaru legacy 6 CD changer by itself? Without the auto climate controls.
biz77
??? I don't believe they were made, but I'm not 100% on that. I do know that you cannot [easily] retrofit the auto-climate control unit in place of the manual climate control unit. In reference to "easily:" One vendor from a few years back (Highline Car Audio), suggested they could perform the modification one off for approximately $4,000. Kodax
Damn, so is there any other way around getting an audio steering controls? I know it doesn't work with single CD changer, it has to be a 6 CD changer. Should I go aftermarket? But will that void my warranty?
biz77
You may be able to add the steering wheel from the model with steering wheel controls and since you have the manual climate controls, going to an aftermarket radio is pretty straight forward. The only question then becomes, will the steering wheel controls function in a model that wasn't originally intended for it? I don't know the answer. SVXdc
The answer is yes. On a 2009, adding OEM steering wheel controls doesn't require swapping the entire wheel, just the button pods. See the numerous links in this post.

Kodax
Thanks guys. Now, if I change my stereo. Will it void my warranty?
zmarko
No. It may void the warranty on the radio itself if you run into problems with it, but your other warranty stuff will be fine.
