dragonman586
So I am out to buy my first set of tires for my 2.5i. I finally have some money to put toward the rubber. Recently due to dented wheels I purchased a set of LGT wheels with tires from a member here, and I liked the feel of the wider yet shorter tires. So anyone want to help me with purchasing tires? I really could use recommendations as far as tires go. I am looking for something all season, and I sometimes like driving my car hard (well as hard as a 2.5i can be driven). Also cost is a concern. Any and all help is appreciated. Sincerely, Alex J
katalyst
couple of threads have discussed it in the past, these all link to all-season tire discussions: few suggestions here: http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=125682&highlight=season pretty large thread on this one: http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=105324&highlight=season there is also the compendium of reviews stickied at the top of this subsection. and this one here has a good breakdown of a few selections with cost (approximate, may have changed since time of discussion) http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130165&highlight=season not sure if you're looking for more dry performance or wet? where are you located? krzyss
location, location, location and where do you plan to drive. This would help anybody to help you. I guess that you are looking for 17 inch tires. What size are you using currently? Typical choices 205/50R17, 215/45R17 or 225/45R17. dragonman586
Looked at those threads posted. Those tires are great but I was hoping to spend less. As far as location goes I am in New York about 20 mins from New Jersey (Spring Valley area), so snow is a concern. How do you folks feel about the Kumho Ecsta AST's? stanjk3
Tires are a safety device. It's not a good idea to just put on whatever is cheapest. Price check the different sizes, sometimes the larger sizes (225 vs 215) are cheaper. Friends don't let friends drink cheap beer.
krzyss
sometimes 205 may be cheaper. Krzys
dragonman586
I understand they are for safety, but I am not exactly going to explore the available performance of some of the pricier tires. And I checked the cost of the thinner 2.5i tires and they were more expensive.
Malt Beverage
First off how much are you willing to spend on tires + install? General Altimax HP - (great touring/performance tire, last 55k (h rated) I put em on WRX and BMW 3 series all the time. Continental ExtremeContact DWS - These are somewhat new but have great reviews so far. Handle great, good snow reviews, last 50k I personally run Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires and they offer a great combo of ride quality and handle well (though I compromised a bit for ride comfort/low noise/snow traction). In your size you would run the Pilot HX MXM4. Similar tire, little higher pro.
Blue GT
I just picked up a set of Sumitomo HTR a/s P01s and for the price/ performance of them you cant beat them (all season tire-wise)
