EJ20H-TT
It helped that they had just tested an outback with the same engine. So they had a base to work with.
PPower
They sell the Outback with the 2.0 twinscroll? I thought it only came with a 2.5 NA or the 3.0 H6.
EJ20H-TT
To clarify It was a 2.5 Legacy they were testing and it's was performance was less than the 2.5 outback they had just tested - so they assumed that something must be wrong with Legacy. SUBE555
If there was a serious difference, guess that shows what a hard break-in can do. Sounds to be more proof I should have even more fun with my car. :D
kage
The major problem I have with the article is that cars don't come from the factory with zero miles on them. If the first twenty miles are critical, then you're screwed, because those miles happened at the factory before the car ever got on the truck. Cars are run in at the factory for final testing. Their odometers are then zeroed out. Between that and the miles put on at final dealer prep, you're probably looking at ten to fifteen miles already. gtguy
I think the article is hooey.
I'm with Dr. Z on this one. Both my Legacy GT and WRX wagon were broken in according to Subaru's instructions, and both became hassle-free cars that pulled like fiends. The GT could keep up with RSes, and as regards the WRX wagon, one guy who rode in it with me thought I had some kind of a chip in it. When it was in for routine service, the regional tech rep from Subaru was there, and had it hooked up to a machine. "What's going on," I wondered. "What have you done to this car," he asked. "Nothing," said I. "Why?" He said it was the fastest stock car he'd ever ridden in. :D I'm not changing a thing during the new GT's break in. legacy2ner
How did you break it in.
PPower
"according to Subaru instructions" would be something like nothing over 3000rpm for the first 1000 miles. Basically, drive it gently for the first 1k.
gtguy
How did you break it in.
With the GT wagon, nothing past 4K rpm for the first 1,000 miles, and varying speeds. For the WRX wagon, nothing past 4K rpm for the first 1,000 miles. With both cars, I celebrated the end of break-in with a rip-roaring run to redline, though with the WRX I only did this through third gear. Those who have driven a WRX know that redline in fourth is a rather serious number. Kevin
legacy2ner
I wish i could break it in like that but my brother will drive my car and if i tell him to not go past 3k he will because he's an idiot. He drives a WRX so i guess i'll screw around with that if he drives my car (legacy) and i will let him know that i did mess with it. That should not make him drive my car. Dr. Zevil
The hardest thing about breakin is the highway miles. Varying RPMS below 3000 on a highway trip is annoying. It would be better if I was able to drive all those miles in the city or country.
