Kevo
1999 forester 2.5 awd Timing belt came off, took heads off and all valves are bent, Pistons all ok. Crank was turned does this matter? or just line up all the mark and put back together.ThanksKevin
Jeepaddict
My Subaru Factory Service manual suggests that if the timing marks are faded you should renew them before the old belt is removed. It also mentions marking the belt with paint and counting teeth, making a mark, and counting more teeth and making another mark. you then install so a mark is centered over the water pump pully, and also lined up on the timing notch of each cam. I have a 1998 legacy 2.5 though. You can buy factory service manuals that are almost an immediate download off the internet very reasonable. I bought one for my car, and it is indispensable. Jeepaddict
Google is your friend here, I bought mine from EBAy, but, there are e-commerce sites I had my pick from. Our Library has a website & you can view the third party service manuals for free, but, most Factory manuals give the storey behind the storey.
