gathermewool
I've been trouble shooting a vibration issue on my 97 LGT 4EAT. On a chassis lift a buddy noticed my front left wheel was spinning in neutral. It's an open diff, so I can understand only one spinning if the other had a bit more friction, but what causes the wheel to spin? '15 FB25 Magnatec 0W-20 + FU filter (70,517 miles) RSB, Fr. Stang70Fastback
My guess would be vibration from the engine causing it to rotate. How quickly is it rotating?
gathermewool
Hmmm. I guess I'd have to say maybe 2-3 mph. The speed increased when I revved in in neutral. I could get two wheels to spin if I revved >2k RPM '15 FB25 Magnatec 0W-20 + FU filter (70,517 miles) RSB, Fr. gathermewool
But, what causes it? I guess i don't know enough about how autos work. whitetiger
cause there still alittle bit of friction in the clutch packs in the trans. enough to spin a wheel where there is no load. its normla for all auto trans as all clutch packs have some preload. mwiener2
5MT does it as well, except most of the wheels spin. 4eat is mostly front drive, hence the front wheel spinning My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons
Stang70Fastback
I never realized there was any connection in neutral... at all.
mwiener2
it's not connected directly, but there is a small amount of friction between everything. the gears in a car are always connected, just not selected.
