hard downshift

well let an unexperienced friend drive my car not thinking he would beat the shit out of my clutch and did one of those from third to second downshifts to speed up. cruising around 3k in 3rd and instead of easing into 2nd he rips it up into gear as hes speeding up. Is there any kind of damage that could of been don here?

i wouldn't worry too much about it. if he didn't double clutch it, then he put some wear on your syncros, or the clutch, depending on how he did it exactly.

I wouldn't worry about it. If he didn't grenade your tranny(if its not broken right now), then all other damage will show later down the road. And when it does show, it'll be questionable whether it was from you, normal wear or your friend.

I didn't say he needs to double clutch, but it would've been easier on the tranny if he did.

There are always two camps when this comes up. Those that say you don't need to because your synchros will do it for you (which is true) and those that say do it to reduce wear on your synchros (also true). I go with the latter.

Thanks guys for the info. I've got 85k on the clock and the clutch is still in pretty good shape.

2nd is pretty hardy...if it will go in at all, then that means the synchros took care of it.
