Grille removal for 2009?

Is the only way to remove the grille on an 09 (and be able to put it back on) to remove the whole bumper?

I have 4 Supertones ready to go on, but I was really hoping I wouldn't have to remove the entire bumper to do it.

If you are a monkey and have really dexterious arms, you can reach the 6 screws at the bottom without taking off the bumper. However, I would highly recommend just removing the bumper... it really isn't that hard - just some pop-its, and you pull. Should take you about 15 minutes to remove the entire front bumper.

Bummer. OK, I'll just take the whole bumper off.

Once I used a mirror (and stuck it to the radiator) and stubby screwdriver, taking off the grill was cake. It's really not necessary to remove the bumper.

But -- removing the bumper is easy enough.

How did you get your hands down there? There is barely any room from the top on mine.

I need to access a bolt at the bottom of the radiator core support, so I think I'll just take the bumper off.

4 Supertones here I come! I'm welding up the bracket today.

You can remove the grille without removing the bumper on the 08 and 09's (I've done it over a half dozen times with a pretty large hand) but it is a nightmare, especially the first time. My hand and arm got crushed/scraped up pretty good. After I got it out the first time I only put two of the screws back in after that. Now it's not bad at all. You absolutely need a stubby screwdriver though.

Hmm, I'll look at it. Mounting will be easier with the whole bumper off though, so I think I'll give that a shot. Maybe tomorrow.

I was hoping it'd be easier since my Tig welder is 45 minutes from my house.

Wow, it really was THAT easy to remove the bumper! It was a little more challenging because I have an Outback, so I had to work around the clips for the flares, but overall it wasn't bad!

Got the bumper off, my bracket built and installed with 4 Supertones.

I've got another two sets on order, so I'll have 8 individual supertones plus the two stock horns. Should be plenty loud then! Those will go in the lower grille though, down by the license plate.

4 Supertones is "louder" but not what I would consider "LOUD".

I drive on I95 every day for 30 miles...
