jcdub100
Hey guys, I am pretty new to the forums here, I was wondering if you can help me. I have a Subaru Legacy L '93 that I recently changed the timing belt on but after putting it back together with the marks all facing up and tried to start it.... but it just cranks and won't start up. The only thing that I got was some smoke coming from the intake. After cranking a second time the two side pulleys are facing down and the middle one is facing up. I don't know what the problem can be, any ideas? Thanks
Bdubs
You didn't line the belt up to the ARROWS on the cam sprockets did you? There are small hash marks on the outer rings to designate timing. Also, the timing mark is on the back of the crank sprocket, like this:http://www.main.experiencetherave.com/subaru/images/timingbelt/DCP_2728.JPG The arrows are to determine where TDC is on piston #1.
