ehsnils
We have a local dish here called Brunkål - which is essentially fried cabbage with seasoning. It's used as a side to the ham, but can be used with other items as well. But the ham is a different project. Anyway - here is how it goes: Start with one cabbage head (or a half if you don't want that much.) http://www.bedug.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=24964&g2_serialNumber=4 Cut it into chunks/strips and discard the stem - unless you want it really chewy! Heat one frying pan and one pot. Cast iron versions are preferred, but any will do. http://www.bedug.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=24976&g2_serialNumber=4 Start frying the cabbage: http://www.bedug.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=24980&g2_serialNumber=4 It shall get a bit of a brown surface. Just a decent level to add to the taste. Fry little by little and add to the pot. http://www.bedug.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=24996&g2_serialNumber=4 And now you have the first stage which looks like the final, but doesn't taste much: http://www.bedug.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=25008&g2_serialNumber=4 Start with some dark syrup - or even molasses (if you like that better): http://www.bedug.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=25020&g2_serialNumber=4 Add some vinegar. Apple vinegar is preferred, but you may use other types too. http://www.bedug.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=25028&g2_serialNumber=4 The amount of vinegar and syrup is up to you and your taste buds. One thing to be aware of is that this actually tastes better the day after it's made. Just heat it to get the best taste.

ehsnils
OK, it's called Golden Syrup, check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_syrup And we have it in two versions around here, light and dark. The dark contains more taste. Of course - you may try maple syrup instead. That will do fine too. i dunno what the **** any of you are talking about, but grilled cabbage is definitely more better than this crap. OK, I'll have to try grilled cabbage, but I want syrup and vinegar on it!
