vs. 540i vs. Precidia

Recommended Posts

I was following this Precidia (P) at about 100 (kms) with a 540i behind me. The P took off with a blast from his fart can. Naturally I follow. He makes a two lane change manuever and I get blocked in.

Now the 540 takes off and I hear his exhaust so I know he's bookin'. I started to get 3 car lengths behind and then he took off to pass the P. That was no problem and as soon as we passed him, he let off.

The 540 continued to pull on me but by the time we were at 180 we had to slow down and he was about 5-6 car lengths in front of me. When I think back, I should have downshifted to 4th as I was in 5th the whole time.

I caught up to him and waved and then my exit came up. He exited off too and pulled beside me. He asked what year my car was and he expected to blow right by me and he was impressed with my car.

Then he kept downshifting and taking off like he wanted to race some more but we were on the main street of my town and there are always cops.

I wonder if I would have been able to keep up with him if I had an AP and installed my uppipe. Right now I am stock.

I know this isn't a kill but this is the first car that has beaten me so far, not that I have numerous opportunities but I have had 5-6 cars try to pull on me. (Jetta, prelude, integra, wrx, cavalier, sunfire, celica)

I don't do this often but the highway was mostly clear.

The dude in the 540i must have been a 6 speed manual then.

They are fast cars. Run high 13's low 14's @ 101-102 mph in the 1/4 mile.

Had it been an auto and you would have hung right with him, maybe even

SLOWLY reeled him in.

The auto 540's run low to mid 14's @ 95-97 mph.

A buddy in his LGT-L (5MT) had a highway run with a 540i here and he

said he hung right on his bumper the whole time.

The 540i didn't pull away nor did he reel him in.

The 540i he ran with was most likely an auto (I think 80-85% of them

sold here were).

Now, if you have an auto LGT, you won't stay with an auto 540i either.

You would of been hard pressed to run with him then anyway.

He might not of pulled away as quickly if you would of downshifted

to 4th, but he still would of pulled away slightly.

My buddy has a 2003 BMW 540i with 6MT

I've yet to drive it, but have been in it with him driving.

They move out...and on the freeway they move fast.
