Manual swap in my 96 L?

Recommended Posts

So I noticed a lot of whining from the front diff and the trans shifts pretty hard but when its cold out it seems to have a little struggle to shift. Was wondering what all i need to swap the Auto out of my 96 and do a manual swap in to it. What all do I need? (I mean obviously I need trans, rear diff, axles, driveshaft clutch pedal, slave and master cylinder) but what else do I need? Is there wiring involved? will it be hell to do? I am looking in to this a lot and just wanna know what all i need. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It has been discussed a lot before. So some searching will bring up some data.

But to put it bluntly, it is a PITA. Get a manual.

Other than that ... sure it is possible.

The 1996 tranny is a clutch cable, so you don't need the hydraulic setup, unless you get a newer tranny.

things you'll need:

clutch pedal

brake pedal

rear diff

tranny

axles

driveshaft

tranny cross member

clutch/flywheel kit

cut a hole for the shifter

play with the wiring and ECU (I'm pretty sure you can use the same ECU...)

all sorts of other stupid parts you wouldn't realize you need until you are half-done.

Would be best to get a manual donor car and do the swap from that. That way when you need that stupid part you'll have it.

I say not worth it, but if you are in for a project, go ahead. It's been done
