I don't see many people with these...price is unheard of for 18s (and FORGED)...anyone have any experience with these?...any comment on quality and fitment welcome! :)

(18x7 at +42 mm offset....the wheel thread sticky says...

7.0" (+37mm to +57mm offset, +55)..so 42mm is acceptable or pretty good?)

HRE, WORK, FIKSE for 18x8 are in the $700 and up range if that's what you mean by "unheard of".

Offset is perfectly fine. RO_JA has been popular with Honda's racing series in Japan. RO_JA also have some super heavy rims and some really lightweight rims.. double check the weight if you want some performance out of your set of wheels. 225/40/18 is still a workable and mountable tire on that rim.

Keefe,

U da man!!..I'm just going through your wheel sticky, clicked back to User CP and your response showed up...u r fast!! I am looking for more comfort than "ultra high performance"...so I'd like to go with a setup that's nice and comfy without breakin the little piggy bank....as far as the price...$569 sounds pretty good for a set of 4 forged 18's (according to piggy)...(don't HRE's and WORK wheels advertise by the price of EACH wheel?? in the range that you indicated ($700)? But I will check on the weight....again...thanks so much!

double check on that price.. very seldom a forged wheel is that cheap.. even SSRs are semi-solid forged and some other rim companies love to catch you with the "forged" stuff and to find out only the outer lip is the forged piece while the rest of the wheel is cast. I remember RO_JA rims being exepensive.. are you sure it's not $569 each??

just got off the phone with detail-works,

*17x7 weigh about 19lbs

*18x7 weight about 25lbs  (*****EDIT---ebay says they are 21lbs :D )

shipping is $120 for either 17's or 18's:( (cuz "...the price of the rims are pretty low"?? so they're makin that up by chargin a lot on shipping?? )....anyways...

looks like the 17's are only available in 1-piece forged (at least from the seller's store)....hmmm....so many wheels to choose from!!!

I only paid $40 for shipping for my SSRs with tires!

Nevertheless, that's a really cheap rim for forged. But I really do wonder if the whole rim is forged or just partial. Oh yea, and the type of forging process because 18x7 at 25 lbs is not a forged weight should be.

Just for a simple comparison:

SSRs Competitions 17"x7.5" = 12.8 lbs

RO_JA Formula7 17"x7" = 19 lbs

Something tells me that rim isnt forged with a lot of force.

Current model line up of the RO_JA wheels:

and the discontinued models as well as typical MSRP:

More on the wheel and the Formula Series itself:

http://www.rojawheels.com/aboutus.asp

"The Formula Series: Rotary forging technology allows wheel designs that are exceptionally strong yet lightweight. The Formula 5 and Formula 7 styles are joined this year by the newest design in the Formula Series, the FF5. The unique directional design is the officially licensed 2Fast2Furious wheel.

The 17x7” wheels are of one-piece forged construction. The 18” and 19” sizes are forged multi-piece styles available in widths ranging from 7” up to 10” to accommodate the varied offsets that the high performance and wide body kit applications require."

And finally for the geeks for "rotorary forging":

http://www.centerlinewheels.com/technology.php

http://www.racdyn.com/Technical%20Highlights/Products/Wheels/RS2F/RS2F_Data.htm

http://www.pica.army.mil/PicatinnyPublic/organizations/ardec/facilities/facility10.asp

Rotorary forging is a common practice to make CANNON TUBES.. and we all know that cannon tubes have to be strong as heck (probably heavy as well) to withstand a motar/shell being shot out of it.

So....these are pretty heavy for 18s, but at the same time are VERY strong?

I'm sold on these as long as these won't come apart on me when I'm cornering (not very agressive driving)....should I go for it? I really want to find something with a polished lip on a contrasting color wheel...please advise

p.s....how much do EACH 05 GT rim weight? Thanks!:)

Yea, pretty heavy for a forged wheel. I think of it as "half ass forging" actually, it's really not as compressed as some other rims.. 4,000 tons compared Velox (11,000 tons) or BBS (14,000 tons) of pressure to smash the metal together to get the particles to align structurally strong correctly will require less metal eventually.

I am sure the wheel can really deal with the city driving, that's for sure. There are plenty of wheels out there with the polished "faux" lip and contrasting color (like Tenzo rims which actually fit on the GT), but for the price you are looking at, you are trading off for the additional weight.

Stock wheels are 20 lbs (19.5 lbs to be more exact). Momentum calculations will take in effect as you are moving the majority of the mass to the edges of the rotation of the wheel. So even if you have a lighter than stock 18" rim, you might experience the same amount of forces and such as stock because the momentum locations are moved further out. (This was all discussed before, just PM Praedet for more info you need it).
