reeseeboy
Hi from New Zealand, I have blown my 1996 EJ25. What is the ideal engine to replace it with. I am told and 1996 EJ20 but are they fully interchangeable. Are there issues with the computer, gearbox, driveshaft, diff etc? Or can I just drop it in leaving all other original parts intact. Is there a better option ? Thanks all
tedsan126
they are all basically interchangeable. Any EJ series engine will bolt to any EJ series transmission, and any EJ series drivetrain will fit into any car that had an EJ series drivetrain in it before. I would go with a 2.2 for the swap because of the engines longevity and reliability. That being said you will lose about 10-30hp going from a 2.5 to a 2.2 depeding on which ej25 you get. But you will almost never blow a head gasket and most likely you wont have any engine problems But I know it is a direct bolt on and plug in. same ecu doesnt need to be changed
