fwa2500
painted my '05 WRX wheels which had been painted pink by the guy i got them from....the pink was on THICK and i couldnt get all of it off, so i just sanded what was left smooth, washed, primed, painted, clear coated. as long as it lasts through the winter i will be happy, i can spend more time and repaint them in the spring/summer http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/5570/bronzen.jpg used rustoleum "aged brass metallic" paint
coldradio1
I did a few sets when I was in the dub world. Couldn't pay for decent wheels because I had to fix the damn car so often. Anyways, one tip that I have is to fill your sink up with hot water (not boiling, just as hot as the tap gets) and let the cans sit in it for about 10 mins. This method may sound crazy, but the paint comes out super smooth. Oh, and be patient when doing it. If you rush it, they will turn out like crap. Also, you may want to consider powdercoating. Alot of places will do it for you for about $40/wheel. Its more expensive than paint, but not much considering you have to buy primer, paint, and clear. Plus, it holds up significantly better. MattD
Have them sandblasted prior for a nice etch for the paint and it will look similar to powdercoat quality.

MeoW71
I've done it. As mentioned, prep is the important thing, if you don't prep right, it will end up like crap no matter what. Other things to make it easier: 1. Take the tires off. It is much easier to paint the wheels this way. 2. Paint inside somewhere. Then you don't have to worry about wind and dust. Might be less of a concern to some, as I lived in a desert last time I painted wheels. 3. As mentioned, put the spray cans (if doing that way) in warm/hot water. It does make the paint come out better. 4. If using spray paint, get one of the handle things to attach to the can from an auto parts store. It makes it much easier on your painting as your finger doesn't get tired as fast and it is easier to control the paint spray. I've painted mine. Sanded, washed, sanded, washed, painted. They've gone over 3 years with no problems at all.
dubunderpar
I used the Dupl. wheel paint took my time and did all the right prep work, and waited 7 days for curing and they lasted a year without a single chip or scratch.
Perrin713
Cool, a Syracuse member. So... you know how the rims need to hold up around here due to the salt, sand on the roads, snow, pot holes in the cuse. haha
dubunderpar
I had painted a set for my blazer and they looked amazing, but I will be powder coating my OB rims, because painting was time consuming and VERY tedious in order for them to look good. Spoonwacker
Did my rims Duplicolor bronze with a couple coats of clear at the start of last winter; I'm going into my second year on them now. Perrin713
Ya, I'm pretty set on doing this to the stockers. Winter project in the heated workshop! What grit sandpaper did everyone use? I heard 320grit. I know inside of the rim is covered in tar from the local road work around here. That should be fun removing off. Best advice on prep work? dubunderpar
Biggest thing is take your time. If you try and rush it you are going to get runs and heavy spots. Smooth motion and light coats. You will be happy.
Spoonwacker
I don't remember what grits I used, but I think it was something like dwolson's 100-->320 recommendation. to light coats. Runs suck. sorry...this forum practically blows goat nuts so im not always on here.Team Pony Express POSTED FROM MY COMPUTER USING A WEB BROWSER
