absolutsnwbrdr
So I've had my 05 Outback 3.0R for a week now and I love it!! But as soon as I hit 45mph I can hear a noise coming from the rear of the car somewhere. My girlfriend thinks I'm hearing things, so that gives you an idea of how loud it is. It vaguely reminds me of the sound a fuel pump makes, but its pitch gets higher with speed, not with throttle. It is a stable pitch and speed, and does not fade in and out like a blown wheel bearing might. Its like gear "hum," but not noise, if that makes sense. The car doesnt bog down when I hear the sound and I had it up to 110 over the weekend just to test the waters (I have 3 month/3k mile warranty). The sound barely increased in volume, and there were no burning smells... everything seems fine. I was thinking maybe its a "hum" from the LSD? Or maybe I am just paranoid and trying to pick out problems? Maybe my girlfriends right, and I'm crazy. Any ideas are welcome! Thanks!
Philadelphias Worst
From what you described i was hearing the same noise, turns out it was the bearing, get it checked out at a local shop, if it is the bearing take it to the dealer for warranty repair as Subaru has extended the mileage on getting these replaced. papagt911
I have the same problem with my 05 legacy Gt. When the car reached 40mph + I will hear the hum noise(high pitch) coming from the rear driver side and it hurts my ear. I will bring it to the shop get it check out.
