fliegermeister
I pulled into a parking garage the other day and shut the engine Off ... BUT the parking lights remained ON ? ? ? The headlamps will turn on and off, as normal. I had to pull the "lighting" fuse from the fuse box to turn off the parking lamps, and now have to re-install the fuse when driving. I'm thinking something must have "melted" together in the Combination Switch, but I am open to all other opinions.Hopefully, someone here has the answer. Ssej
Is the parking light switch on top of the steering column set to Parking light mode?

fliegermeister
That was the quickest response I've ever received on any of thesetypes of Forums. I didn't know it was there and bumped it accidentally. I can clearly see it pays to read the Owner's Manual. I've been driving this car for 3 years, it has over 230,000 miles on itand still yields nearly 30mpg at highway speed. Thanks for your help, and "I'll be back" when I tackle the clutch replacement. fliegermeister
Yeah that question comes up quite a bit ^_^ I have been around subies my whole life, so I have seen many people fall to this problem. Welcome to the board by the way! During my 50+ years of automotive repair I have never worked for Subaru, so these little gems are kinda new to me. My experience is mostly with GM, Ford, Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep, Rolls Royce/Bentley, Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Porsche, MBZ, BMW. I bought my '96 Legacy 3 years ago as a fuel saving measure (when gas was $5.00 @ gal.) and now find that I prefer driving it over most of my other vehicles. I installed Satellite Radio for constant entertainment while driving to Las Vegas 6-8 times per year. When this one "passes", I will surely buy another Subaru, probably a new Forester. Thanks again for your help, Howard
pillboy
Wow...a parking light switch thread and no one was a dickhead...that has to be a first around here. It is still ugly.
mikeslgt
Today was my day. I found this thread when i was searching for a reason why. I thought it was the hazard light switch instead. Subie must be the only manufacturer that has this 'feature'.

Thanks again for your help, Howard I'm the same way. I have an FJ Cruiser and a 60's Land Rover, and I prefer this old wagon over most of them. It's just easy, gets great mileage, and gets me to the mountain to snowboard.....

Preach
This is why I love this forum. I don't think I've ever had to post a question of my own - just a quick search, find out that there's a switch I've never noticed before, and I'm on my way. You guys rock! Stang70Fastback
That was the quickest response I've ever received on any of these types of Forums. That's only because whenever someone posts this question, everyone races to be the first one to answer it and solve their problems and look smart, lol.
