BEST AutoX tire?

Recommended Posts

What is the Best AutoX tire we can run on the stock wheels?

They dont make Hoosier S104's that fit 17x7" wheels..

they dont make Kumho V710's that fit..

The best I can find is the Avon Tech R slicks from tire rack in 225/45 that say they fit a 7" wheel..

Has anyone found anything better?

I dont need it to be exact stock specs for stock class, i just want it to fit the wheel.

I'm thinking of trying 235/40/17 Kumho V700's. They're not as fast as the v710's, but they're good for regional work. It shouldn't be a problem to shoe-horn 235 or 245's on a 7" rim, the Miata guys run 225's on 6" rims. The 245/45/17 V710's look appealing, but I think I'll go with the V700's.

umm, they should make Hoosiers for 17s... You are looking for A3S04 Hoosiers for 225/45/17.. (new version).. $213/each at http://www.tirerack.com and here is the link:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Hoosier&tireModel=A3S04&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=245ZR7A3S04&fromCompare1=yes

If it said "session expired", just "refresh" the webpage.

They will fit, but the sidewalls will be a little sloppy. Larry Fine in his A-Stock WRX ran a set of Hoosiers at 275/40/17 on his stock STi rims (it was scary to fit a 275 on a 7.5" but it's very doable) when I saw him last year at the Subaru Challenge at PA.

You can also run the Kumho Ecsta V700 or VictoRacer 700 in 205/40/17 or 225/45/17 on the stock wheel.

205/40/17 for more torque

225/45/17 for more gearing (this is a bette size for me as the autox here are higher speeds at 50+mph and it's common to hit the rev-limiter in 2nd gear).

I ran a set of Dunlop Super Sport Race @ 225/45/17 on the stock rims.

You can also run these:

Pirelli Corsas at 205/50/17 for more gearing

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Pirelli&tireModel=PZero+Corsa&partnum=05YR70CL&partnum=05YR70CR&vehicleSearch=false&index=3&fromCompare1=yes

Let me know if you need more tire selections as there are other tires you can use.. to be competitive in Stock Class it's best to get a 225 wide Hoosier (like a 225/45/17).

I know this is a different class of tire with harder rubber and all... but what about the BFGoodrich KD's? Looks like they're one of the cheaper Y-rated tires and I'm guessing the sidewalls are going to be very strong. But how would they compare to the competition tires in terms of grip and sidewall strength?

They wont hold up a candle to a set of Hoosiers for any R-compound Legal class. Currently for Street Touring (street tire class), Kumho MX and Falken Azenis RT-x15s are the ones dominating that field. Anything else is really less.

And the new Hankook Ventus RS-2, supposed to be Hankooks answer to the Azenis?

Supposedly, but no one that I know of are running them.. if a whole class of national drivers are not using them, then I guess they are not competitive enough.

They're apparently new this year as I see. Maybe someone should try them. :) Just because nobody is running this new tire doesn't mean it isn't a decent tire, could mean some people like to rest on their laurels. ;)
