Clutch Chatter

I just bought this 96 legacy wagon three or four weeks ago. The guy had the clutch done around 18,000 miles ago. I have to really be careful on takoff to avoid clutch chatter. Something's not right. I'm used to a clutch and on my old Subby (85) I could take off from a stop light from near an idle and it would be smooth and engage perfect before I open the throttle much. I rarely get a chatter free takoff from this car (96) unless I rev it to 1500-2000 rpm. I think the machanic didn't resurface the flywheel! I don't feel any pedal pulse while letting it out so it's not a warped flywheel. What can I do? I don't want to drop the tranny and pull the clutch just to do the flywheel. Any ideas? Adustment tips?
