fishbone
Wife loves orange chicken. I'd like to make some real good home-made for her, enough of the fast-food junk. She really likes the Panda Express kind but I've always personally thought I can do a lot better home cooked. It always seemed to me either too bland, too sweet, too dry, too mushy, always SOMETHING. I found some recipes online, of course, but wanted to see what you people on here know and what tricks you got up your sleeve
SpecBee
Start with orange juice as your simmering base and add about two oranges worth of rind zest using a square toothed zester tool. brown sugar and black strap molasses for your sweetener. boil that down to a thick sauce then add your rice wine vinegar at the end of cooking. fishbone
Thanks SpecBee. Somewhat related to asian cuisine, is Dynasty oyster sauce good? I bought a generic brand and imho tastes like crap, oyster extract is way down on the ingredients list and the sauce is way too sweet.
RyanGT
I have always used Lee Kum Kee/ Panda brand oyster sauce. The other brand I have used is the Thai brand Mae Krua. That's good too. Never tried Dynasty brand oyster sauce. . . I have enough drama for now.....
