z28dreams
Hi guys, I recently installed some new brake pads on my 2005 LGT (35k miles) with the help of a friend. Brakes were bedded in properly. At first they were fine, but after about 50 miles I've been feeling some heavy vibration when braking lightly at medium speeds (30,40,50mph+). I've since put maybe 300 miles on them. I talked to a few people, and they think it's either a "warped" rotor issue (actually deposit build up), or bad pads. Main question: - if this is a rotor problem, will I be able to reuse the existing pads (only a few hundred miles on them now)? Unfortunately, I have no garage or driveway, or tools to work with. Would anyone in the Alexandria/NOVA area be willing to help me take a look at them and decide if I need to order new rotors or not? I'm completely flexible on time and would appreciate the help. Thanks, -N
Woodstock
if you think its the rotors, go to a shop and ask them to resurface your rotors. If you have the $$$ get a new set of rotors.
praedet
What pads did you put on? It is pad deposits, but sadly, if they are stock pads you will keep getting them back no matter what you do with the rotors
z28dreams
Rotors are stock, the pads I bought were the Wagner Thermoquiets. From another thread it sounds like the stock pads have some kind of sulfur/moisture issues that result in rotors warping. If it gets down to the rotors, I'm definitely buying new rather than resurfacing. I've heard way too many stories of rotors being resurfaced and then a few months later vibrating again. KartRacerBoy
Find a nice safe place to brake HARD from 60 mph+. Do it a few times and the deposits should scrub off the rotor.
