LbecomesGTintoSTI
Okay, the FWD fuse was bugging me so I had to indulge my curiosity. However, that may have proven to be my greatest mistake with this car. I ended up wiring in a switch to control the FWD with out having to put the fuse in (I kept the FWD connection intact to override the switch in case the switch becomes faulty). I had to drive the car on FWD mode for about a week because I had gotten a flat so I used the 14's on the front & drove @ normal speeds (street & highway speeds). I would like to know what kind of damage did I cause? The car's transmission & differentials work just fine but I feel uneasy about what I have done. Also, FWD was HORRIBLE. Slightly better gas mileage (only about 3mpg) doesn't make up for understeer, & traction loss during takeoff (weight transfer). The FWD Switch: Off http://i578.photobucket.com/albums/ss226/850DegreesF/Picture205.jpg On http://i578.photobucket.com/albums/ss226/850DegreesF/Picture206.jpg After using it that one time, I've made it a law NEVER to have that switch on unless absolutely necessary. BAC5.2
Absolutely and incredibly terrible for the transfer clutches. Driving for extended periods in FWD (and driving to a point where you'd be losing traction) WILL cause permanent damage to the transfer clutches. Dumb idea. I lucked out then because the AWD seems to be just fine but never again will I do something out of negative curiousity to this car.

goneskiian
I thought it was OK to drive in FWD when you have a flat. Doesn't the manual tell you to put the spare on the back and remove the fuse when you have a flat?

Doesn't the manual tell you to put the spare on the back and remove the fuse when you have a flat? Not mine. It doesn't say anything like that & I created the switch out of curiousity but was forced to used it when my RL tire blew out after running over a nail on an exit. It was an uncomfortable experience the entire time. Also, I would like the technical lowdown as to why driving in FWD mode is damaging on the transmission. All I've been getting is "FWD is for towing purposes only" or something without a direct explanation.
