illt3ck
I bought it off another user here "Omen" and it got to me the next day ... On their website it goes for $110 I think ... I picked it up for $80 shipped! It had only been used for two weeks and still looked brand new! Installed in 30 minutes and you NEED snap ring pliers in order to do this no getting around it. Don't waste your $30 on urethane inserts, they are un-needed because stock you use a metal insert that goes inside hard abs plastic bushings. Initial impression on my 10 minute drive-around : LOVE IT! Drastically reduced throw and considerably shorter than stock. Just my luck a yellow 98 viper gt was waiting for me at the next stoplight I pulled up and...
Unilat
The urethane inserts you are referring to may be for the anchor underneath the car. Stock, that and the rear pivot bushing are squishy rubber. See bad under car pic here: http://www.calvars.com/unilat/auto/subaru/200410%20Shifterrearanchor.jpg[/url] And shifter pic here: http://www.calvars.com/unilat/Auto/Subaru/200410%20bothshifters.JPG And I could be wrong. racerdave
What about additional gear whine? How much louder is the Kartboy unit? Also, did you just get the shifter, or the Kartboy bushings as well?

You are probably right, however I don't know how much more firm the shift can get. My shifts are 100% solid and I have a friend that has the bushings that says it makes the shifting way too notchy. I purchased the shifter only. Loved my drive into work this morning! No additional gear whine, and retail they are $110 I think + $3 shipping from http://www.kartboy.com
Car vs. Driver
What about additional gear whine? How much louder is the Kartboy unit? The shifter has nothing to do with gears, there is no change in gear noise or introduction of whine. What the shifter does do is reduce throw distance between gears and make the shifter feel more connected with the car. There's debate on weather you can actually shift faster with an STS or not due to increased effort to actually get into gears ... who knows. Bottom line, they're worth the money. Well, if the height of the STS is adjustable, then you can shorten the throw length but make the height higher so you have more leverage, thus making the throw easier

racerdave
Thanks for the feedback. The rubber material in the stock shifter lever (and STi) has to be there for a reason, either for sound or vibration-damping characteristics. Kartboy is solid, so I was simply wondering if there were any negative consequences to its installation.

This sure did the trick.
