SoldonSubie
Given the reaction to the 7.1 sccond 0-60 time published in C&D for the Outback XT with the 5EAT I did some research on other Subaru’s over at the Motor Week (PBS TV show) website. 1) 2002 WRX, 5MT; 5.6 to 60 and 14.3 @ 95 for the ¼ mile: http://www.mpt.org/motorweek/reviews/rt2036a.shtml 2) 2003 Baja, 5MT; 10.00 to 60 and 17.3 @ 79 for the ¼ mile: http://www.mpt.org/motorweek/reviews/rt2206.shtml 3) 2004 Baja Turbo with 4EAT; 7.5 to 60 and 15.9 @ 89 for the ¼ mile: http://www.mpt.org/motorweek/reviews/rt2308a.shtml 4) 2004 Forester XT with 5MT, 6.2 to 60. No ¼ mile #. This Forester weighs 3,289 pounds, about 125 pounds less than a 5MT Outback XT. Given these comparisons, particularly those of the less powerful 2.5 turbo it definitely seems that the 7.1-second time is off. I don’t know what the Baja weighs but it definitely isn’t LIGHTER than the new Outback XT. Given the reported data the OXT is only .4 seconds faster with better gear ratios and a 5EAT
SUBE555
The figures I have found as listed by Subaru IIRC are in the main info thread. Those are what Subaru was claiming. Maybe they were granny shifting, not double-clutching like they should have been. ;)

coolbluelb
Here is a handy site for looking up 0-60 and 1/4 mile times for various cars. It also includes times from various magazines in many cases.
