djd775
Yesterday while driving my 2005 Legacy GT one of the v belts fell off and got shredded. Upon closer inspection it looks like the crankshaft pulley is set back into the timing belt cover about 1/4 of an inch(see attached pics). Has anyone encountered this before or can explain how this happened?
PhilT
The rubber element has probably failed. Ask Unclemat though, he's the expert on pulleys Double Award Winning Legacy GT Wagon
mwiener2
i'd go with rubber damper failing that should be covered under powertrain warranty...unless they consider the rubber a "wear" part My Mods List (Updated 8/22/17) 2005 Outback FMT Running on Electrons

djd775
I took the old pulley off and the rubber was shot. I ordered a Perrin lightweight to replace it!
