ScarySkulls
First winter season (New comer to Canada). Went through almost the complete winter safely and on this one last outing 2 nights ago, on my birthday, on the very last corner(where I turn into my parking lot), it's a slight downhill. Didn't realize the amount of black ice on the road. Road curves slightly to left before the right turn I have to make for the parking. Turned the steering wheel left slight left. Car kept on going straight, while the ABS kept on buzzing like mad. Car hits the curb and the snow bank, the right side of the car is hoisted and then it slams down. I've overshot my turn so I continue ahead, make a round turn around the block and come back and part. Then inspect the damage. Here are the pics http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/1640/24032009101.th.jpg http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/7070/24032009100.th.jpg http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/6269/24032009099.th.jpg http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/2820/24032009098.th.jpg The front left side wheel. Shows a tiny bit of damage.... http://img134.imageshack.us/img134/9867/24032009102.th.jpg Totally out of money right now after paying my MBA tuition Should I hammer the rim straight and take it to the alignment shop? Or first try and procure a spare steel rim and then drive it? What other damages can be predicted? (I will have the car hoisted and pics taken soon) I noticed the steering wheel is slightly off now. Needs to kept at something between 1-2oclock towards right to keep the car straight. Earlier it was dead straight at 12 o clock. Lesson Learnt : AWD is no substitute to winter tyres. NORULZleggy
Man I was just looking at your tires and they do not look like winter tires at all. I know you said black Ice, but I was running some meaty Winter iPikes on my STI this past winter and I was doing some crazy stuff on ice and in snow i was truckin right through it. well I would say do what you can, but next time get some Winter tires man. Looks like you got all season on. Never trust them in the winter. If you have a subie it is a must to have summer and winter rims and tires. Just have to save up for it. mikeislord
Ouch, that sucks. Probably easier to get another steel rim. Check the radiator and radiator support for damage. You probably bent an LCA which is why the steering is off.
