mightyS
The Clemson sports car club is hosting another autocross in Anderson, SC, on April 11. Here is the link:http://www.clemsonscc.com/ It is a good smaller autocross for those who are new and have never tried it. I'll be there with my Legacy. mightyS
Sadly, I was the only Subaru out there -no WRX or STi. I had my car newly modified by Zen motors with super light 15 lb Enkei wheels, 235/40/17 Yokohama AD07 tires and Perrin 22mm sways/endlinks. The track was the same for all 3 races, but the cone set up was the tightest for yesterday's race. Even with the stock springs, sway is about gone. The car is very neutral handling now where is used to have bad understeer. When I really pushed it in a long left turn sweaper, it had oversteer for a second and I spun the back end around. I can take turn much faster and hold the line without the car sliding out. iggybdawg
Do you still have the stock shocks? Here in Seattle, the field has lots and lots of Subarus. I guess because of the rain. But I'm usually the only Legacy. There's just a pile of Imprezas from all years.
mightyS
Yep, the spring and shocks are stock. The sway bars remove more of the lean/sway than springs. I was beat by 3 Miatas that were driven by experienced drivers. The course was twisty and designed by a guy who was racing his Miata and made it to fit his car. The Miatas all had race compound tires so there was just no way I could be as fast. This was just my 3rd autocross. I had to relearn how to dive the car after the changes. Before, I knew to keep a streight line into a turn and let the understeer slide me over to where I wanted. Now there is no understeer so I needed to take a wider line into a turn. In my last race, my times were within a half second of each other. This time, I was dropping from 96 to 87 to 83 to 81 seconds which shows I was still learning how to drive it faster. Oh, the slow 96 second time came when I went into a spin on the first lap.
