RustyShackleford
Friend that has my old '97 5MT says the thing has just died (engine spontaneously shut down) on her a couple times, and it's throwing some CEL codes. Couple about cylinder misfire. But mechanic says the shutdown is due to "transmission neutral switch". Could he mean something other than the "neutral safety switch" ? Because that one would just disengage cruise control, but not kill the engine, right ? They also want $200+ to fix it, which seems way high for the NSS. Ideas ? Thanks. Short version: is there any sort of interlock switch on the 5MT tranny that would KILL the engine, not just prevent start ?
LongHiway
I'm gonna guess yes, it is the neutral safety switch. Try moving the shifter around (just push it around a bit, not real hard) and re-starting. Also with key turned to "on" shift to neutral and try again to start. Move the shifter around in neutral again if nothing happens. I don't know about $200 to repair, could be quite a bit of labor involved.
