SeattleLGT
I know, another dreaded 5EAT thread. But I'm not sure if this has been done before. I wanted to know of any and/or all improvement and performance mods can be done to the 5EAT for piece of mind. So far I've come across the following mods... Improvement/Maintenance IPT Valve Body http://www.ipttrans.com/subaru5eat.shtml#main Rallitek Tranny Mount Insert Bushings http://rallitek.com/ra5etrmoin.html High performance cooler http://www.ipttrans.com/subaru5eat.shtml#main Tranny flush Synthetic fluid and filter change Performance IPT high-stall torque converter http://www.ipttrans.com/subaru5eat.shtml#main Its probably a little extensive to install all items. Maybe even a little paranoid. But if there is anything left out that you feel can improve the life or performance of our "plastic" transmissions, feel free to add something. For me, I'd love to modify my LGT more, but before I do I would like to strengthen the tranny a little more considering all of the problems people have discussed on this board. I've owned and modified a handful of cars in the past. This is my first Subaru and I can honestly say that these transmissions are cheap, and imo, garbage. So any and all help would be appreciated. fishbone
You're gonna get a lot of different opinions on the tranny cooler part. Tru-Cool can be had for cheaper on other sites. www.transmissioncoolers.us, for example. Tru-Cool 4452 is the way to go iirc, the 4451 is kinda smallish and anything over 4452 will not fit horizontal and will have to be hooked up vertical on the radiator. Another note is that the Subaru OEM fluid is pretty much noted the way to go, the only other alternative being the Amsoil ATF which is still debated around here. RalliteK has 2 versions of the mount: street and rally. Street is plenty for most of us, rally is sorta kinda harsh especially if you live in 4-season areas (cold temps REALLY make it stiff)
