What is wrong with the crotchety old members on this board?

Recommended Posts

 Right back at at ya man. Wait till you become one of those old members on an automotive board. I've been there with my previous vehicle, and you really do get crotchy after awhile.....

If I ever get to the point of getting upset over posts in the wrong section of the forum I am going to find the tallest building around and practice skydiving without a parachute

I don't think this forum is bad at all, which is the point of the thread. Edkwon felt so upset by threads that were marginally in the wrong spot and tried to get all high and mighty on the noobs.

and yet on the flipside, someone felt so upset by my high and mighty complaint that they had to start a whole different response thread. Brilliant. Does it really hurt that much to hear some criticism and a point being made? And because you (and whoever else) don't like what i had to say, therefore i should keep quiet and let things be? That's an awesome attitude. If you don't like my tone than you're welcome not to, it wasn't made to get on people's good side.

I'm just giving you a hard time..

point is to the op.. theres a LOT more maturity in this forum than most others that I've been on, a lot more than nasioc, just take it easy.. if you ask a stupid question and people point it out.. well.. it happens to us all. just take it in stride.. if you've been a member of other message boards in the past you would know this is quite normal.

It's the tone that can ruin a message though. That's the problem with some people. I have been guilty of being sensitive before. But, if you pay attention to my posts regarding the Legacy GT (excluding off topic forums), I generally try to help people out without being a dickhead.

Thats just me. I try to treat people how I want to be treated within sole purpose of this forum.

I know exactly where youre coming from, but the problem is when someone makes a mistake, and its treated as no big deal, its easily forgotten, and repeated by others. A harsh tone and response, while considered uncool, unfair and dickheaded as you say, stays in the collective memory a bit more. The fact someone felt they had to start a whole response thread to what i said already shows you the impact it made, even tho he wasn't even the subject of my post.

I could get into a whole discussion about general attitudes and approaches towards things in society/life/etc, but thats not really relevant nor of any interest to anyone here.

Regardless i'm willing to make a point in such a way that everyone hates me for it, but if they remember it, then that's cool with me.

Couple things, i know as a "noob" to the subaru community, here and nasoic, im still trying to understand why do people here are always bashing nasoic? Yeah so most of them drive WRX's or STI's but we're all here to learn more about our subaru's and those of us with knowledge to share that information. We have pretty much the same or similar engines. Then again i read around some threads here of members acting like legacygt.com is superior or better than there forums? Im not criticizing anyone here, i just want to understand why and why we try to be more distant from them??? Because i've learned alot from this website and from nasoic, and thats why i joined these forums. To learn and have discussions with people that have the same passion for subarus. I know as a former moderater in the toyota community there was minimal bashin on other toyota sites, and sometimes we would have all toyota meets wich included many other toyota forums (except the supra guys)

But in regards to posts and as a former moderator i do have to agree with edkwon. He's basically saying the more things are in order around here in regards to posting. The easier it is for us noobs to search and find information on what it is we are looking for. I spend most of my time browsing and searching rather than posting questions. Because 80% of the time the questions that do come up, have been asked before. And if people took that a little personal, so be it, im sure he didnt meant it to be. But posting threads in retaliation is not the way to go either.

But anyways that my 2 cents..

I think its the age gap between WRX and sTI owners and us LGT owners. The WRX for the most part is a tuner car and appeals to the younger crowd, while the LGT is a family sedan. :)

With that age gap, comes a certain level of maturity. Of course there are good folks over at nasioc, but the flaming is more intense over there than it is here. That is my experience with Nasioc.

There are several forums out there that have a defined "mob-mentality" to it, such as NASIOC, 2+2, ClubSi, and others (I always found VWVortex to be quite good). Most members over there are not bad at all, but the size of those forums are so large, that the population of dummies usually is larger than our whole membership. Some oen who is new will post a question, and within 10 mins there will be 400 "STFU n00b" posts.

I will say that I've met a number of really nice, smart, level-headed people from NASIOC at various meets, but as a whole they do tend to fulfill a stereotype. I don't necessarily think the forum experience is all that different (although I don't spend much time over there), but the IRL experiences have made me shake my head more than a few times. Not to say that us LGT members/drivers are perfect, but douchebags seem to be a very small minority. I just get the feeling that there's more than a few of 'em over there who think they're hot sh*t.

I've experienced NASIOC members IRL:

  • Passing several cars in a 25MPH zone on a double yellow, in the middle of a small town.
  • Saying "you should really get your dad to buy you a new engine." I had to walk away as I was snickering so hard.
  • Driving aggressively in front of cops to the point that drives have had police escorts.
  • Passing non LGT or NASIOC cars (plural) aggressively, via a chain-up lane.
  • Lining up on the freeway to race.
