Power Steeering Effort

I have an 06 LGT with 42,000 on the clock. The steering feels like it has gotten heavier to me. The car is under the extended warranty, what should I have the dealer look for? I have also noticed an occasional squeeling coming from the front when turning the wheel in the morning. Is this asign that the belts are on their way out?

The obvious things to check are:

 

• Belt tension
  
• Power stering fluid level
  
• Tire inflation
