questions for the 2.5i

Recommended Posts

ok i had my 2.5i for a few months now, and i would like to mod it.

so i have a couple questions, since it doesnt seem to be alot of mods available for the 2.5i.

i would like to get an exhaust for the car, something like a greddy ti-c or a HKS carbon ti. but they seem to make it for the WRX or the STi ... so i was wondering if those exhaust would fit on my car???

also, if im going to get tein TYPE FLEX. would it fit? both front and back? because its listed for the GT.

i tried the searching, but no too much came up.

the problem with most exhaust systems is they're designed for the GT which has some key differences in the piping cause of the turbo but if you're just looking to get the cans there's a couple of options that would work out. as far as i know, some of the cans that can fit are the perrin, spt, avo and i believe i saw some clips of magnaflows on youtube with the borla replica headers. with the 2.5i, the sound won't be as deep as the GTs it seems.

try looking in the vendors section and visiting their websites. you can also contact them regarding the fit of certain products.

also somebody correct me if i'm wrong.

there is of course alwasy the hogzaust solution, as posted by sn00py

I have installed a SPT catback on my 2.5i and it fit perfectly. We had it done in under 10 minutes w/ no modifications at all. I will try and get a sound clip tomorrow.

most suspension setups should fit the 2.5i without any problems. this thread here has a good discussion on suspension mod options for the 2.5i, some of the posters in the thread are running the tein coilovers so those work for sure.

all the suspension (excluding front sway bars) for the GT WILL fit our cars... its all teh same suspension... the front sway bar has clearance issues on our car because our motor is different, but i believe its either rallitek or avo that has come out with a front sway bar for the 2.5i i dont think its really worth it being that its only 1mm difference but that 1mm COULD make a difference I guess

^ it is the rallitek FSB that will work with the 2.5i without any problems. the clearance issue is actaully just getting around the exhaust, which someone has a write up on how to fab up a heat shield to make the cobb FSB work....i don't recall the thread but some searching in the suspension forum will probably turn it up

Yes, they are expensive. The video isn't that great with my camera phone, but you get the point with the sound.

There actually is a decent difference with the FSB. Since I compete in Stock class SCCA autocross, we're not allowed to touch the RSB, or really any suspension pieces except the FSB and dampers. I've got the Whiteline 22mm installed on my Legacy. The car feels a good bit more planted with the FSB, and the reduced body roll is definitely noticed in any spirited driving. Also, don't be concerned about any additional understeer, as the added roll stiffness keeps the tires in better contact with the ground, and actually helps increase grip. It's all got to do with camber curves of a McPherson strut suspension and what not, but it works.

Yeah, the Rallitek F/R sways are a great investment to start off with. The car definetly feels planted to the ground, which means more traction. I can easily go 60-70mph through some fairly tight curves near my house without feeling the car rolling at all. If you don't mind the sound of the bushings, go for it.
