Getting Harder to Shift - 05 LGT 47k Miles

Recommended Posts

My 05 LGT is getting harder to shift. N-1, 1-2, 2-3 have gotten much "notchier" lately and sometimes on the 2-3 it literally feels like the teeth are engaging one by one.

Clutch has been babied. No aggressive launches and only rev matched downshifts. The clutch itself still engages fairly low to the floor.

Anyone else have issues with the TOB but not the friction disk?

Thanks.

Transmission requires gear oil for proper lubrication when shifting, and for head dissipation. MT fluid is required every 30k miles and it usually takes around 3.75qts. Make sure you use the right kind, a good 75w-90 is what Subaru recommends. Don't use engine oil, syncromax, gm syncromesh or anything thin.

The kind of gear oil matters a LOT. I've heard regular Valvoline 75W90

dino rec'ed and use it. Many here prefer Redline 75W90 - make SURE it's

the NS ("non slip") version - synchronizers don't work right without it.
