Question about buying OOS LGT

I'm kinda interested in this ride:

Should I be concerned about any LA or DMV emissions regulations, or anything else, about the straight pipes before buying it? Or should I have the seller put stocks back on if I decided to buy?

Hrmm-- or how about the tint too? Do we have DMV nazi's waiting at the border waiting to blow up cars that aren't within regulations?

mmm. automatic wagons shoudlnt be that hard to find. every wagon made in 06 was auto.

that said, its a catback. you wont have issues with emissions. you might get issues with the noise, but turbo cars generally arent that loud. best bet would be to have the stocks put back on. its only a catback. should be fairly easy.

you dont have to get it smogged and checked out the moment you get the car in. you have some time. unsure how much time exactly, but theres not guards standing at the border holding RPGs.

car for sale. PM me!

Cool.

I prefer the non-limited so I have a bit of room above my head with the combo of manual seats + no moon-roof, so I'm itchin' for an '05 non-limited. Seems this specific type of wagon is hard for me to find.

You have to handle the DMV paperwork within 20 days of bringing the car into California. If you haven’t completed the smog test when you go in, you won’t get your tags, but you won’t be subject to any additional fees/penalties for not registering the car on time.

I searched extensively for my car because I was very particular about what I wanted. I ended up buying a car from back east. You might find my notes useful:

I did everything through AAA. When I was in there, the girl entered a wrong date which put me at 21 or 22 days since entering, and a fine of a few hundred dollars popped up.

Craigshelper.com was pretty awesome, it'll allow you to enter a search term once and then show you results for any or all craigslist markets.

You can also use Yahoo/Google advanced search features to search only craigslist.org.

I found Salt Lake City and Denver to be the hottest craigslist markets for the Legacy.

Some sites (ebay, autotrader, carmax, oodle) have an alert feature that will notify you of any new listings that match your search.

Evan-- very cool. I'll need some time to digest all of this. I've got AAA and have utilized their DMV services before, far more convenient than the DMV itself. Did you inspect the car yourself before buying it?

And let me take a wild guess: were your shopping for an ABP 2005 Legacy GT wagon MT Unltd??

I flew out to pick it up and inspected it myself and took it for a test drive. I hadn't signed anything or put down any money, but I didn't have a return ticket or anything either.

The seller was very forthcoming with information and I was pretty comfortable with the car being in the condition advertised.

My requirements were ABP GT Limited Wagon with 5 speed tranny and black interior.

Here's the car I bought:
