i bought my DIY grille from another member (had to prime/paint/etc) but if i recall correctly thats pretty much how mine is. I would trim down the two small plastic parts that stick out on either side to just clean it up and to help the mesh sit a little more flush against the grille but you or anyone else would never even notice that part of the grill once its on the car. it would really just look like a straight line across

not sure if this picture is what your looking for but you can see how that part of the grille looks once i primed it

If I can get mine to look as good as collegemt's, I'll be a happy camper.

It looks as if the grill material is mounted just under/behind the chrome surround, right? Did you cut the surround (or its mounting surface) down to accommodate the material? Thanks, HPH

On the 08 grill the chrome ring can be removed and the mesh can be stuffed behind it. The chrome ring on the 05-07 can not be removed.

Outstanding. I knew the chrome came off, and it's encouraging to hear the "stuffed behind it" part.

I've got a grill for the lower opening just about finished, so I'll be starting on the main one this week. This is very helpful. HPH
