ShrinerMonkey
I have just purchased a 2007 head unit on eBay for my 2006 Legacy 2.5i. (I wanted the Aux in and MP3 capability.) What I need to know is what parts I need to order to wire in the Aux input jack, that I assume is installed in the center arm rest. Any ideas? ShrinerMonkey
Yes, it is the entire head-unit plus the manual climate-control. I have confirmed on here that it will fit and I have found the information I need to hook up an auxillary port that I will install into the center armrest console. I have all the parts that I sourced from Radio Shack, etc... and just need to get it installed.
ShrinerMonkey
Just wanted to update that I just completed this install yesterday. Kind of a pain and the Iowa heat didn't help matters but it is done and working perfectly thanks to all of information provided on other threads... so big thanks to the community. I also added the OEM subwoofer while I was at it. Sounds great! Took me a few hours but that was mostly because of a lack of organization and working in a cramped garage. Some initial head scratching was also involved as is usually the case the first time you take something apart. I used the instructions that came with the subwoofer to help with the disassembly. Dealing with the manual HVAC controls makes this install more difficult and was the primary source of frustration but once I figured out how everything went together it was no sweat. If anyone else is considering this upgrade let me know and I can let you in on some gotchas that can come up. Biggest issue is the space by the power outlet is very tight. I was able to fit it but the lid to the power outlet will not close all the way with my aux cable plugged in. This is really no biggy as I will usually have a power adapter plugged in here anyway. In the end this upgrade did not cost me much because I was able to get the '07 head unit for free. I just had to buy a new soldering iron, antenae adapter (factory lead was cut off by salvager), wire, and the aux ports from Radio Shack. Total cost < $50. gershon
2007 HU single disc with factory aux in for sale. Everything works. This is ready to go plug it in and that is it. And yes it will work in a 05 and 06 Outback and Legacy. I hard wired a cable long enough to run to the cubby or the armrest. No need to fiddle around with tapping into the factory harness and cutting the factory wires. This HU is used and has some very minor smudge/scratches but barely noticeable unless you are super anal. I am looking to get $180 plus shipping firm. The antenna was cut when i bought the HU. I am sure you could add on the antenna from the HU you remove from your car. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h163/gershon23/IMG_0753-1.jpg http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h163/gershon23/IMG_0756.jpg

gershon
Here is an alternative to mounting the aux in port into arm rest. I went gung ho and added both rca and a headphone jack. While you are at it stuff a couple of power outlets in there. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h163/gershon23/IMG_0730.jpgThe metal sheet is also pretty cool. It is a flat sheet of metal I screwed in for a couple of holders like the one pictured below that holds my iPhone in the console.http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h163/gershon23/IMG_0690.jpghttp://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h163/gershon23/IMG_0691.jpg
RustyShackleford
If you're gonna go to that much trouble, you oughta use these sweet outlets: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=265-
Jeromes
See Post #5 for photos. I just purchased a 2007 head unit on E-bay that I will put in a 06 outback wagon. I see from your photos that your unit is modified to include a wire for the aux input. Can you tell me what you did to add the wiring internal to the unit? Any photos of the mod would be great. Thanks Jerome.
gershon
I just tapped directly into the circuit board instead of tapping into the harness coming form the car that plugs into the HU. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h163/gershon23/huauxinstal3.jpg Sorry for the bad photo but all I did was follow the wires from the harness into the board to figure out what goes where. Jeromes
Thanks for the reply and photo. That is what I thought you might have done. What did you do with the aux enable signal? Thanks Jerome
gershon
That would be the thin black wire in the photo. I sent it to a ground via the case of the HU.
ShrinerMonkey
FYI - I now have all of the parts for this mod for sale. You will only need to solder the pins to the aux cable as I was not able to get mine out of the connector but I have extras that I have included. https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/iowa-city-ia-parts-accessories-2006-subaru-legacy-2-5i-271245.html
