My "new" boxer-powered beast!

Recommended Posts

This past weekend, I picked up my "new" 1966 VW Karmann-Ghia convertible in Santa Barbara and drove it over 400 miles back to Sacramento. It's currently bone stock and very original, including the original 1300 single port, and 4.37 ring and pinion trans, which made for slow going (65 - 70 mph) during my trip.

My plans for it are to do suspension and engine mods, but to keep everything looking stock. I intend to pull the original 1300 and put it on a shelf for safe keeping. I will replace the 4.37 trans w/ a 3.88 super sport trans I've ordered from KCR Transmissions in Riverside. And then I will put in the 2110 cc motor that's currently in my 1969 KG coupe. The three fold increase in hp will be nice! Oh yeah, I'm going to lose those "falsies" (fake whitewall inserts) and will switch those little 165R15s with the 185/65R15 tires on my 69 coupe, which I intend to sell after 18 years of ownership. I've also included a picture of my 69 coupe.
