2000Outback Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 Hi Folks: I am in the process of replacing the clutch in my Outback. In order to get the tranny out -- How are the half shafts removed? Thanks Tom:confused:
meier motor sports Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 2 ways. use a pry bar and pry them out of the trans. or use a punch and punch out the roll pin and then remove the cv joint from the axel pin. also using a pry bar
derffred Posted April 19, 2008 Posted April 19, 2008 It's easy... I replaced my right front axle a few weeks ago. Disconnect the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle, disconnect your shock from the steering knuckle, remove the 32mm axle nut; then do what Meier stated above.
2000Outback Posted April 20, 2008 Author Posted April 20, 2008 I was hoping to avoid the alignment but what is, is what is. Thanks again
meier motor sports Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 remove the lower ball joint and swing the whole strut knuckle assembly out to remove only the axle to transmission connection. your camber and toe will not be effected. you may also need to remove the outer tie rod from the knuckle
derffred Posted April 20, 2008 Posted April 20, 2008 Just mark the bolt and where the knuckle meets the shock.. that's what I did...
