I know this subject has been touched a few years back, but i would like to start it up again, when installing HIDs how many people had the black like in the lights on the driver side, and how did u fix it? I know some have said just rotate the bulb so the rod is facing a certain direction, but i cant rotate it. How can this be fixed? :iam:

the correct position for the return wire is 6o-clock position. Most kits have that wire at the 8 o clock position or so. To fix it you would have to sand off the tab that fits the kit to 9007 spec and then just turn the bulb and mount it at 6.

By return wire we're talking about the rod that connects to the actual bulb, right?

You want that pointing down, or so I've read.

has anyone ACTUALLY sanded down the tab?

Good question! I've been wondering this too.

Wouldn't sanding down the tab make the bulb not very sturdy in the socket? I'd be afraid that it wouldn't sit firmly in there.

the mount for the bulb is flush with the housing. The tab is just used only for mounting it a certain way. Get rid of the tab and you can move it freely around to position it correctly.

The spring load of the clip is what holds it there.

so i assume a dremel would do best? or somthing else... im afraid of getting close to the bulb and damaging it... i really dont have 100 dollars to replace bulbs if somthing was to happen.... ideas?

I'm not so sure that's entirely true...

On my halogen and HID bulb, the surface that touches the mounting area on the lamp has 2 raised edges that also mesh in with the mounting area.

Basically, those 2 raised edges would have to be sanded down to make the surface on the bulb mount flush to the surface on the mounting area of the lamp.
