Living Legacy Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I'm just about to replace the air filter and wanted to know what you all suggest. I want to stay with the stock intake for many reasons (mostly due to warranty and cost) but still want what is best for my car. Is anyone using a K&N Drop in filter? Is it worth the $50? Or should I just stick with OEM and keep it that way until I get an intake (IF that is...). Is there anything that is better? Thanks for the input!
ABPillinois Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 +1 no oiling your filter "All right, brain, I don't like you and you don't like me - so let's just do this and I'll get back to killing you with beer."
rkl303 Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 I wouldstay away from K&N. Too many horror stories with MAFs. I am using the Perrin filter as the Oil is thicker then the K&N and less likely to clog your MAF. If I didn't have the perrin filter I would stick with stock.
Living Legacy Posted February 4, 2008 Author Posted February 4, 2008 Thanks guys, I did some searching, but I really didn't know what I was looking for. I'll go the AVO route and see what I come up with.
OCDetails Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 I've got a K&N in my Corolla that I really like, but there was nothing like the AVO filter for the Legacy. It was a great replacement. You can really hear the blow off after changing over to that. It isn't something that everybody on the road hears, but it reminds you that you have a turbo. I got a little bump in the MPG after putting that filter in too. I got a bigger bump in mpg with the K&N in the 'rolla, but it isn't hard to do on a car like that. _________________________________________ “Cleanliness becomes more important as godliness becomes more unlikely.” O C D E T A I L S . boostedsubbygt Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 i had the perrin drop in panel filter but after i got my 30k inspection the service manager got in my ass lol about how oily it was and replaced it with a "spt" replacement filter. He put the oily perrin one on his "wall of shame" lol
schwinn Posted February 10, 2008 Posted February 10, 2008 Ran into this site some time ago: http://mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/ Doesn't say anything about AVO... but I'd prefer a filter that actually filters, which apparently doesn't include the K&N.
iyalla Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 I believe the AVO panel filter is of the Dry, Mesh type.
Danase Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 An Apexi air filter was the best I've ever used. Always rates high on filtration and airflow charts and is oil-less. I'm not sure if they make them for the Legacy though.
