Though I still feel that by the summer, these will be selling for $300-$340; but still a descent deal if you dont agree with me and you want it now. :)

My thoughts are go for the 10" screen some of the other netbooks offer - trust me, you'll be glad you did.

I looked at this Acer at ODP a few days ago...the screen was mini but I figured it would get the job done. Any reccs. on a 10"...best bang for the buck? I have a desk top and IBM thinkpad...going to use the netbook for when I travel and when the rest of my family is dominating the other PCs...I will only be using it for surfing and e-mail. Thanks!

I bought a Eee PC 8.9" a few weeks back, going to be my CarPC. (paid $199)

They are slick, works great and the battery life is amazing.

If I were to purchase a netbook for my personal use, yeah... GO 10"!!!

the keyboard on all of them is small, so that is a big thing you will need to get used to if you have bigger hands. I use it to surf while i'm on the couch watching TV or a Movie, works great but like i said get the bigger screen.

Whatever brand you get, go for these options:

10"

Atom 1.6ghz

SSD HD, 64gb+ (you can still get a normal 120gb HD, but SSD is much lighter on the battery.)

Ram, 1gb is fine. Buy a 2GB stick after the purchase, cheaper that way.

I played with the Acer and HP netbooks along with the Eee PC. Acer and HP do feel better, the Eee PC touchpad bugs me at times...

I am currently winning bidder on a 10" e peecee. With all of the above..$300 new, no shipping....pretty good deal. It has the 120gb HD...but the other features you mention. We'll see. Thanks!

MSI, that was the brand I would seriously look at also.

There are two different 120GB drives. SSD and normal SATA (i think) Unless it says one or the other you have to look at the model number. I thought Asus only put the SSD's in the big ones now... could be wrong.

For what you can do with them, you just can't beat the price.

Now everyone is making them, Sony IMO builds quality laptops. but expensive... I never liked their desktops though.
