DLy
I thought I was fairly competent at installing stereos, but apparently I'm not. I just finished installing a 4 channel amp using the speaker level inputs from my stock head unit. I cut the white harness from behind the head unit, splicing in the input and output wires to and from the amp. The rest I just spliced back together. I've been installing stereos off and on for 10 years and I'm usually very good at this stuff, but for some reason I had serious problems when I turned the car on after putting it all together. I have no blown fuses and I have 12V coming out of the yellow/red wire of the harness...but nothing out of the blue/red wire. Not working is the head unit, climate control, trip/fuel/clock display, and my keyless entry doesn't work. Everything else works just fine! Could it possibly be a relay? lookslikeanevo
you blew a fuse! one under the steering wheel, get a fuse checker and check them all, IIRC its a brown fuse Current:MY05 SWP wagon - 253/290 UP, AEM CAI, Invidia Q300, tuned@yimisport OLD: MY06 GRP - 274/
DLy
I checked them all with a ohmmeter and they had a shorted connection which definitely confused me. I'll look again. Does anyone have a more readable listing of the fuses? The fuse panel has abbreviations that aren't too awful helpful. Thanks Evo
lookslikeanevo
^if the car is switch on, it should either read 12v +/- 0.9 , IIRC, get a $2 fuse checker from the closest autoparts store, its a lot easier when your down there Current:MY05 SWP wagon - 253/290 UP, AEM CAI, Invidia Q300, tuned@yimisport OLD: MY06 GRP - 274/
DLy
Ok, got me a fuse checker. Easier to use than my ohm meter...but same result. I have checked every fuse in the fuse box and in the engine bay with none being blown. As I said before, I'm getting 12v to the yellow/red wire (12v acc) on my white harness. I'm supposed to be getting 12v for the blue/red wire (12v mem) right? Does anyone have a schematic from their shop manual? That would help me tremendously. I'm worried it might be a relay, though I wouldn't know where to start. Also, I noted last night that when I have my parking lights or headlights on (my DRLs are disabled) that I cannot run my brightness all the way up! I can select every setting except the uber bright one. Though when I switch my headlights completely off, it reverts back to the highest brightness. This is WEIRD. lookslikeanevo
pull all the fuses and check them ... it honestly sounds like a fuse, i blew one awhile ago installing a gauge(me just being careless) but it happens, my blown fuse still lit up, but it was blown,,pretty weird...whered you tap the remote wire, maybe that wire doesnt like it? DLy
I didn't tap the remote wire. Because I'm using SLI, the signal from the stock HU will turn on the Amp automatically. A remote isn't required. I've already checked the amp and it's getting 12v as necessary though isn't much good without a signal from the HU. I'll physically check all the fuses now. Thank you for your help on this evo!
cwmiller
It is the fuse in the engine compartment, in the fuse panel, right above the left front tire. It is the fuse furthest froward towards the front of the car, in the compartment!

DLy
It's definitely not a fuse of any kind. I've physically checked all and they're all good. Because I've check the blue/red on my fuel comp display and it's not getting 12v...I have reason to believe that I've popped my RC-5103 relay in the engine compartment. I'm not sure how it happened...but it's the only rational explanation for what's not working. Can someone please chime in on where I can find an electrical manual or have knowledge about these things? I've been physically tracing that stupid blue/red wire underneath my dash and it's been a serious pain. I would much rather read a book on it! DLy
good night evo... if it were legal in Arkansas...or even remotely possible on a genetic level...I would so have your babies right now. I am now almost entirely convinced that it's the MainFan2 grey relay in the engine bay that is bad. For two reasons. One, a couple of the vacation pics clearly showed that what was not working were directly related to that relay....and two, because I jumped the hot 12v accessory on the audio harness to the 12v memory (back loading the voltage from the open circuit) and it turned on my clock display! (I know I know, this is a huge electrical nono...but I'm fairly desperate.) Have you guys heard of someone blowing a freaking relay? I was so damned careful and even was proud of the clean install. It must have been a freak occurrence for me to pop the relay like I did. Welp...off to Subaru to order a new one.
newbwrx
Was it the relay or not? My headunit, amp, keyless entry, etc. stopped working today also. I was trying to correct a static (ground) issue. Now everything is out.
BAC5.2
Anyone ever find out what caused this? Same thing randomly happened to my car last night. No blown fuses or anything! Cybikorpg
I have the same exact problem: the stereo, clock, interior lights, and remote keyless entry do not work. I've checked every fuse and tested every relay. All were good. Who actually fixed this in the last 10 years?
